We are pleased to work with the Emirates Youth Council to prepare the Emirates Young Delegates Program, which translates the leadership's vision of enhancing youth participation and activating their role in the international arena. The current orientation of the United Nations is to integrate the perspective and views of young people into formal processes associated with peace and development, not only at the United Nations level but also in all relevant international forums. We believe that this program is an important and fundamental step towards enhancing the involvement of young people and increasing their contributions to national development issues And international cooperation in the future.

The program aims not only to involve young delegates in meetings and consultations of the General Assembly, but also to enhance the skills and capabilities of delegates to ensure that they benefit fully from the participatory process. This is at the heart of the UAE's youth policies.

Objectives

The United Nations established the “Youth Delegate Programme” to provide young people with opportunities to participate effectively in international platforms by urging Member States to include young representatives in their delegations to participate in the debate of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, its functional commissions, and to encourage youth to provide solutions or proposals to their delegations on youth-related challenges.

  • Give young Emiratis an opportunity to be engaged in global affairs and gain international experience and exposure to the United Nations
  • Represent young UAE nationals in the biggest international platform
  • Contribute to the enrichment of relevant discussions at the United Nations, thus enhancing the visibility of the UAE to the UN and by introducing and presenting the vision and aspirations of young Emiratis
  • Present Youth with an opportunity to build their capabilities and to sharpen their skills and build their professional networks

Selection Criteria

UAE National

Between the ages of 20-26

Fluent in Arabic and English

Excellent communication and public speaking skills

Critical thinking mindset

Familiar with global challenges, international affairs and Youth challenges especially

Ability to participate in the program online for three weeks to two months (New York City timings)

Duration of
the programme

The program starts in October 2020 and lasts between 3 weeks to 2 months depending on the availability of the applicant.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the program will run online.

Two Emirati Youth will be selected to join the Fifth edition of the UAE UN Youth Delegate Programme. Delegates will be selected after submitting an online application.

The UN Youth Delegate Programme aims to provide an opportunity for Youth to effectively participate in international forums and to urge nation states around the world to include Youth representatives in their delegations to the General Assembly as well as the Economic and Social Council. The programme encourages delegates to discuss challenges related to Youth, as well as to propose solutions regarding these challenges
